Monocacy Mustangs Parent Update
Dear Parents,
As you know, Monocacy Middle School students have been participating in a Co Curricular (CCP) period for 30 minutes each day. Co-curricular activities (CCA), held during the CCP time directly relate to the FCPS middle school curriculum in an effort to enrich and extend learning through experiences not typically offered during regular classroom time. On days that we have a delayed opening or partial schedule, we do not have CCP.
The time frame for co-curricular activities will occur in 9 week cycles. Co-curricular period activities will continue being held Monday – Thursday for 30 minutes. CCP time on Friday will also continue being reserved for school wide lessons and activities. Recently, our students have participated in reviewing school policies and procedures, discussing crisis response, learning anti-bullying strategies, electing SGA officers, as well as activities which support our PBIS program.
In addition, during our Co-Curricular program time, students may receive an academic intervention from any subject area teacher. Teachers and counselors may provide tutoring, organizational and social skill strategies, retaking tests and quizzes, discussion of concepts, help with homework questions, etc. If your child’s name is on an intervention list, they are required to attend. Each morning, students will be notified by their homeroom teachers, if they are to receive an intervention.
On the reverse side of this paper, a menu of Co-Curricular period activities has been provided. At the beginning of Term 1, students will select their top three choices from the menu. If a student does not make any selections, an activity will be selected for them. Please review these choices with your child in order for them to make the best possible selection.
Please feel free to contact the Enrichment Specialist, a counselor, or an administrator with any questions. Thank you for working with us as we implement our Co-Curricular Model.
